| ASTIMwR: The user interface
ASTIMwR is a RS/GIS based application providing water management capabilities.
It makes use of satellite images as well as maps and tabular data from ground sources.
Summarizing and extracting relevant information from large datasets to assist the Guadiana Water managers is one of the ASTIMwR goals.
The UI compiles a set of unique tools tailored for each need. It captures information from the existing data sets and present them in a way that supports the daily operation routines for the Basin organizations. Some applications are:
- groundwater exploitation control
- irrigation performance monitoring
- analysis of wetland evolution
- evapotranspiration mapping
- crop water
- rainfall and well records among others are included
in the system.

| Data Management
One of the keys to the effective water management is to
provide easy to use tools to access, display, and update the data sets. A
thematic-sorted catalogue module is designed to address these issues. It is opened by
selecting Utility - Catalogue on the ASTIMwR Window. This catalog
dialog box enable the user to:
- view and manipulate the data sets
- add or update data sets, if necessary.
- Delete and correct datasets

| NDVI 10 days composites
The user can access the NDVI 10 day- composites data by
clicking Environment | Low resolution time series | NDVI on the
ASTIMwR window. This brings up a dialog to invoke the NDVI 10 day-composites.
Tools for analysis are available:
- Pixel info: NDVI in position
- time series trend curves: shows the evolution of NDVI
with time at cursor position
- Enables you to visualize the NDVI values changing
from pixel to pixel in the Attribute of NDVI window.

| Irrigation Performance Monitoring
To qualify irrigation the UI includes 3 layered irrigation
performance indicators (IP's). The IP map and the corresponding
attribute table is opened.
- explore, visualize and compare other IP maps and
tables from different dates.
- Use any of the database fields to search and analyze the
information by applying chart and query function.
- The figure displays the results of IP1 per month at
district level. The table highlights the query results (where the
IP1 is greater than 1.15 as specified in the query). By moving
and clicking over the map, the corresponding unit and IP in the
attribute table is highlighted.

| Irrigation consumption
Select menu Irrigation | Groundwater Irrigation | Query Database.
This option enables the user to retrieve information about
irrigation activity and groundwater extraction at different levels (The
minimum aggregation level is the farm). In figure the query result
contains:
- the total irrigated area
- the water consumption per crop
- the total water consumption
- the total water allowed to the farm
- Irrigation abuse identification
- Farm owner identification

| Rainfall and groundwater data
Select Hydrometry | Rainfall, a dialog for processing of
rainfall data opens. It provides tools to:
- Retrieve rainfall station maps and attribute tables.
(Graphical and manual access)
- Estimate weighted rainfall area (Thiessen) within the mask for the
specified rainfall period.
- Update rainfall records
- Display multiple statistical rainfall graphs
- Similar functions apply to data from wells

ASTIMwR
is a customer tailored package. Its information is classified and it
cannot be freely distributed. However ASTIMwR is an example of what a
powerful combination of GIS/RS and hydrological models techniques can do
in the real case of Watershed Management (Spain and Portugal). If this is
your case, and you would like to participate in a project of this
characteristics for your area, contact us any time. |
