| Load a project
A project is a file that contains and organizes all the works you do
with AHAS. From the AHAS main window, select File-Open project.
All the listing of the existing or created raster maps displays in your Project
window. The Project window provides a complete set of tools to
display and manipulate images, which are integrated with all functions of
ILWIS map windows. Moreover it give access to new
outputs by selection from dedicated designed thematic menus.

| Display a image
From the project window, select the map to display, and click
the Show map button or use the context sensitive menu (right click)
built in AHAS. The image displays on a Map window, which is a fully
set of map display and manipulation tools.
Map window features:
- add layers of point, segment, polygon maps...
- add annotation on top or beside to the image...
- map edition...
- map representation change...
- zooming...
- map distances...
- full coordinate system...
- scrolling window...
- saving the multiple layers as a map view and many more.

| View image information
The cursor info window provides pixel and histogram related information
for each added image by just moving the cursor in the Map window (image
view). The retrieved information is 100% georeferenced.
The histogram (frequency of occurrence for a certain pixel value) can be
simultaneously display for any selected map.
The View image information tool is both a powerful monitoring
instrument and an unique assistant for image analysis when decisions from
the user or external interactions are required to built new raster
products within the project. |

| Create AHAS output maps
AHAS output processing is executed by accessing the thematic
pull-down menus in the Project window. This action brings up an
input dialog window, where an expert system guides you through the process
of generating the output map and updates the Project file. Output
generation requires from input information, generally other maps or ground
punctual data. The user choices are:
- use as inputs the default maps and values offered by the
system
- browse the system or network to select other existing ones
- go through an expert guided process to generate a new one
- import a map from the network in many formats.
Once data input is entered, just click 'OK' to generate all final and,
eventually, intermediate outputs. |

| More than a Help file
The development of the help file in AHAS was done by
experts in the Earth sciences. It is not a simple help file but a
very dedicated piece of research.
- Full theoretical explanations
- Full algorithm descriptions
- Complete parameter characterization
- Hot-spot sensitive helps
- Exercising is done by using spreadsheets that
reproduce the algorithm in AHAS. All spreadsheet are unprotected to
facilitate training.
- Direct access to specialized Internet sites to obtain
complementary information or specialized calculators
- ILWIS help file is included.

The dialog boxes for generating the
new maps offer an easy-to-use environment and a friendly user interface
that wide opens the spatial image analysis for a huge community of
researchers and decision makers with poor or little experience in remote
sensing applications in hydrology. |
